Biancomangiare (literally White Eating for the colours of its main ingredients, which was considered a symbol of purity) is a very ancient, traditional and elegant Sicilian pudding. It usually served with fresh Jasmine, almonds and lemon zest, which seems to stem from Arab inspiration. A delicious and easy dessert will surprise your guests!

Ingredients

  • 1 litre whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 80 cornflour
  • 200 gr caster sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 Lemon
  • Acacia honey
  • Almonds flakes

Method

Place the milk, sugar and cornflour in a saucepan over very low heat. Whisk them all together until the sugar and starch have dissolved into the milk, then add the cinnamon and lemon peel. Once the mixture starts to become warm, lower the heat and always stirring. When the mixture is thick and smooth, remove from the heat, let cool for a few minute. Pour into dessert glass and garnish with honey, lemon zest and almond flakes (you can use different toppings as pistachios, orange zest, fruits, chocolate). Serve chilled. ENJOY!
